Personalised gifts for Dad that aren't another mug

Dad already has enough mugs. If you want to give him something he will actually keep, a personalised print does a different job: it uses his own family, his own kids' hands or his own photo, instead of a slogan he'll use twice.

We make every one of these by hand in our studio in Hessle, working from the names, dates or photos you send us. You get a proof by email before anything goes to print, so nothing goes wrong on the day. Here are six ideas, with the real prices from the shop, and every design works as a simple print on its own or framed in black, white or grey.

1. A welly boot for every member of the family

The Personalised Welly Boot Family Print gives each person in the family their own wellington boot, matched to a welly style and printed with their name, under a title like "Our Family" or "The Smiths". There's a wreath option too: a plain wreath, a Christmas wreath, or no wreath at all above the boots. It starts at £8 as an email PDF, £10 as an A5 print, and goes up to £31 framed in black, white or grey on A3. It suits a dad who is more likely to be found in the garden than behind a desk.

2. A fist bump from every child

The Father's Fist Bump Print puts Dad's hand and up to five children's hands together in one fist bump, with a skin tone option from A to D or greyscale, so it actually looks like your family. There's a pet paw option too, so the dog or cat can join in. It starts at £8 as an email PDF and goes up to £31 framed on A3 with a grey mount. Tell us how many hands you need, the skin tones, and your title and names when you order.

3. His own dictionary definition

The Personalised Dad Definition Print takes a photo you upload and sets it alongside a definition-style write-up of the word Dad, or Grandad, or whatever title fits. You add the title and a name, we add your photo, and it prints from £10 as an A5, up to £30 framed on A3 in white. It's a straightforward option if you already have one photo you love and want it to carry more weight than a plain photo frame.

4. A photo collage with his own words underneath

The Father's Photo Collage Print lets you set a title (Dad, Grandad, Uncle, whatever suits) above a collage of photos, with a line of your own wording underneath, from a favourite saying to an in-joke only the family will get. It starts at £10 as an A5 print and goes up to £30 framed on A3. If you'd rather work from three photos side by side instead of a collage, the Father Three Photo Print does the same job in a simpler layout, from £8 as an email PDF up to £31 framed on A3 with a grey mount.

5. The dates that matter to him

The Personalised Dads Birth Date Print keeps things simple: his title, and the names and dates that matter, whether that's his own birthday, the day he became a dad, or a date for each of his children. It suits a dad who isn't fussed about a big photo on the wall, and it starts at £10 as an A5 print, up to £31 framed on A3 with a grey mount.

How we make them

Every print here is made to order in our studio in Hessle (HU13), by the two of us, Lee and Sam. You send us the names, dates or photos, and we send back a proof by email before anything is printed, so you can check a spelling or a date before it's too late to change. The frames are solid wood, made in the UK, in black, white or grey, and the front is 1.2mm acrylic rather than glass, so a frame knocked off a shelf or hung above a bed won't shatter. Because each one is personalised, they can't be returned for a change of mind, which is exactly why the proof matters.

Where to start

Start with a photo or the names you want to use, and let that decide the design. A single favourite photo suits the Dad Definition Print, a family of wellies suits the Welly Boot Family Print, and a handful of little hands suits the Fist Bump Print. You'll find all of these, plus frame and size options, in our for Dad collection.

If football is more his thing than fist bumps, our guide to daddy and me personalised prints covers the sportier end of the range, and if you're weighing this up against a photo already sitting in a normal frame, personalised photo prints walks through the framed-photo options too.
