Personalised newborn prints: capturing the birth details

The details you scribble down in the first hours never leave you. The time on the clock. The weight the midwife read out. The name you had been saving. A personalised newborn print takes those few lines and turns them into something you can hang on the wall, so the day stays in the room rather than in a notes app. We make ours by hand in our Hessle studio, printed with the baby's own details, and they start at £8.

What a birth details print captures

Most of our newborn prints ask for the same four things: the baby's name, the date and time of birth, the birth weight, and where the baby was born. That is it. You type them in when you order, we lay them out inside the design, and we send you a proof to check before anything is printed. If you have spelled a middle name a certain way or want the time written as 06:42 rather than 6.42am, the proof is where you catch it. Nothing goes to the printer until you are happy.

Below are six ways people order them, from a first-week keepsake to a christening gift and a print for the grandparents. Every one is personalised, so it is worth saying early: personalised items are non-returnable for a change of mind, which is exactly why we proof them first.

1. The classic themed birth details print

This is the one most people picture. A clean layout with the baby's name large at the top and the birth details set out underneath, wrapped in a theme that suits the nursery. We make it in safari, woodland, pink, blue, dinosaur, pastel safari and a seagull sailor design, so you can match it to the room or keep it gender neutral. Prices start at £8 for an email PDF you can print yourself, £10 for an A5 print, and £15 for an A5 framed in black, white or grey. If you want a bigger statement, it goes up to A3.

2. Add a photo with the 3D prints

Our 3D star, circle cloud and balloon designs give the birth details a raised, layered look, and they have a spot for a photo. You upload a picture of the baby when you order, we set it into the design alongside the name, date, time and weight, and you get a keepsake that is part portrait, part record. These also start at £8 and run up to A3 framed. They make a lovely first-birthday order too, using a newborn photo people have not seen framed before.

3. Match the nursery with a rabbit print

If the room is already leaning one way, our newborn rabbit prints come in blue and pink and carry the same birth details layout with a soft character the little ones actually notice once they are old enough to point. They start at £10 for an A5 print and go up to A3 framed at £30. A rabbit print reads as a nursery picture first and a record second, which some people prefer over a details-forward design.

4. The christening keepsake

For a christening, naming day or blessing, our christening prints come as a single name or double name design and ask for slightly different wording: the child's name or names, the date, and the church or venue. You pick the balloon colour, blue, pink or a custom shade, so it sits with the day's theme. They start at £8 and go up to A3 framed. It is the kind of gift a godparent or grandparent can give that the family keeps well past the day itself.

5. A step up for the grandparents

New grandparents often want the baby's arrival on their wall too, and our birth date print is built for that. You give us a title like Mum, Mam or Nana, then the names and the matching dates, and we set them out together, so a whole family's birthdays or a new arrival alongside their siblings can live in one frame. It starts at £10. It is an easy one to give when you already gave the parents a print and want something for the wider family.

6. Choosing the size, frame and finish

Every newborn design comes as an email PDF, a print on its own, or framed, in A5, A4 or A3, with an optional mount. The frames are solid wood, made in the UK, in black, white or grey. One detail worth knowing for a nursery: the front is 1.2mm acrylic, not glass, so if it ever comes off the wall near a cot it will not shatter. For a first print, an A5 or A4 framed piece suits most nursery walls; A3 is better over a chest of drawers or in a hallway where you want it to be the thing people look at.

Made by hand in Hessle, proof before we print

We are Lee and Sam, a husband and wife studio in Hessle, and every newborn print is made to order here, not pulled off a shelf. Once you have ordered, we send a proof so you can check the name, the date, the weight and the spelling before we commit it to paper. Get the details right on the proof and the print will be right, which matters more on a birth keepsake than almost anything else we make.

You can see the full range on our Baby and Newborn collection, browse the themed birth details print or the 3D star design with a photo, and if you are shopping for the whole family, our Family prints and Children's prints sit right alongside the newborn range. Looking for a new baby gift for a mum to be? The birth details prints and the christening keepsake are two of our most given.
